Munich, November 5, 2024 – RobCo, a leading provider of modular, affordable, and connected robotic automation solutions, introduces its new AI-powered automation system, RobVision. It enables robots to perceive, interpret, and respond autonomously to their surroundings, allowing them to perform complex actions without needing every step to be pre-programmed. This advancement optimises robotic adaptability to dynamic conditions, reduces implementation effort, and significantly increases automation efficiency.‍

Industries, especially small and mid-sized businesses, struggle with a persistent shortage of skilled workers while needing to make the most of their budgets. Affordable, modular robots that can quickly adapt to changing environments are becoming essential.

To meet these market needs, RobCo developed RobVision, an AI-based system that greatly enhances robotic flexibility. Unlike conventional robotics, which requires static environments, RobVision leverages advanced computer vision and machine learning to work autonomously in unstructured, dynamic settings. The robot operates with an integrated camera that captures images of its surroundings, which are processed by the RobVision AI software to recognise objects and determine the correct gripping position. This capability enables the robot to accurately pick parts from unsorted surfaces.

Intuitive Object Recognition with RobCo.Studio

Users can configure object recognition through RobCo’s cloud platform, RobCo.Studio, by uploading a CAD file of the object to be grasped. Based on this file, RobVision generates synthetic images of the object in various positions and settings, which serve as training data for the AI model. Once training is complete, the AI model is uploaded to an edge device for real-time image processing during robot operation. Following the automated learning phase, the model can identify target objects and their positions, even if they haven’t been previously encountered in real-world conditions.

In RobVision’s new user interface, operators can calibrate the camera, adjust gripping positions, select different object models, and test system performance. Within the workflow editor, where robot actions are configured using nodes, two new nodes are available for RobVision: the Vision Trigger Node and Vision Execution Node. In the Trigger Node, an image is captured, processed, and the object’s position is calculated, followed by the gripping operation in the Execution Node.

Smart Retrofit Solution for RobCo Robots

RobVision is available as an add-on when purchasing new modular robots from RobCo and can be retrofitted to existing RobCo robots with ease. Customers receive both the camera and AI software in a straightforward, intuitively designed installation process, enabling rapid deployment of the technology. This intelligent system, developed entirely in-house, enables companies to respond flexibly to changing demands without needing constant reprogramming. Through automated learning and precise decision-making, RobVision significantly extends robotic uptime and reduces implementation time.

The user-friendly interface further simplifies handling, allowing employees to configure applications quickly and effortlessly without requiring extensive technical knowledge or expertise. As a result, companies benefit from a flexible solution that is immediately ready for use, minimising downtime and manual interventions while simultaneously boosting efficiency and profitability.
