- Next milestone on the way to becoming the European market leader in modular robotics.
Munich, June 28, 2024 – RobCo, an expert in modular, affordable, and connected robotic automation solutions, continues its growth trajectory with the opening of new office and production facilities at its Munich headquarters. Following a successful investment round raising 39 million euros, the company is considered one of the most promising startups in the German startup scene. Roman Hölzl, CEO and co-founder of RobCo, was joined at the inauguration event on June 27, 2024, by German Finance Minister Christian Lindner and well-known investor and RobCo supporter Frank Thelen. They emphasized the significance of "Modular Robotics – Made in Germany." RobCo now boasts over 1600 square meters of office and production space across three floors in Munich's Maxvorstadt. The company's ambitious goal: to become the market leader in modular robotic automation for medium-sized businesses in Europe.
Founded at the Chair of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence at the Technical University of Munich, RobCo stands for innovation and technological advancement. With its modular, affordable, and connected robotic automation solutions developed and produced in Germany, the company offers industrial enterprises the opportunity to easily and cost-effectively benefit from cutting-edge robotic applications in their manufacturing processes. By continuously advancing their autonomy approach, the company is pushing the boundaries of robotics – soon, RobCo robots will be able to independently perceive, analyze their environment, and plan and execute actions.
"The inauguration of our new office and production facilities in Munich is another milestone on our journey to becoming the market leader in modular robotic systems for industrial enterprises in Europe," emphasized Roman Hölzl, CEO and co-founder of RobCo. "The tremendous support from our customers, who use our robots daily in their production, and the recognition of our achievements by the political sphere strengthen our resolve to take our solutions to the next level and pursue our vision of having RobCo robots in every factory across Europe. For this reason, we also plan to double our staff this year. With a strong team and a clear focus, we are confident that we can achieve our goals."
"RobCo is an excellent example of what our country needs: more startups willing to take entrepreneurial risks and bring expertise from academia to practice and production lines," said Christian Lindner, Finance Minister. "Germany already has a strong robotics industry, but we can advance further in the medium-sized business sector and industry. RobCo's Lego-like modular system appeals to many companies, especially from the medium-sized sector, that have not yet been able to integrate the latest technologies into their machinery."
Intelligent and Modular Robotic Automation for Industrial Manufacturing
"Our robots can already be set up, programmed, and managed using software and AI," added Paul Maroldt, co-founder and Head of Robot Engineering at RobCo. "In the future, we will focus on developing even more autonomous and intelligent industrial robots within their operational environment. Following our autonomy approach, we are committed to deeper AI implementation within our software, enabling robots to independently perceive, analyze their surroundings, and plan and execute actions based on the sense-reason-act triad."
"There is no question that robotic solutions are increasingly taking on tasks in production," said Frank Thelen, investor and co-founder of Freigeist Capital. "However, this competitive advantage has so far been reserved for the big players. For smaller and medium-sized production sites with varying orders and small quantities, the acquisition of large, task-specific robots has not been worthwhile. RobCo now offers modular and flexible robotics as an affordable solution, precisely tailored for the medium-sized sector, allowing them to keep pace in the automation race. Moreover, industrial enterprises can effectively address the ongoing skilled labor shortage."
RobCo Offers Pioneering Modular Robotics Technology for Medium-Sized Businesses
Unlike traditional, rigid robotic systems, RobCo provides adaptable, affordable, and connected robotic solutions. This allows repetitive manual tasks to be automated, production processes optimized, and operational flexibility increased. With the patented modular hardware kit and the RobCo Studio software platform, robots can be easily adapted and expanded to meet changing requirements. This flexibility is crucial for medium-sized businesses, often operating in dynamic markets and needing to rapidly adapt to changing customer needs.
